A fascinating article. Being based in Japan, where I own and run a small proofreading company specifically catering to medical professionals, I have to say that good proofreaders are very much "the last Samurai". The English that passes for acceptable in medical papers/journals supposedly checked by native English speakers is, let's just say, something to be desired! I know language is supposed to be organic, but try a little harder, please!

Great article! I'm a beginning copywriter in America and my employers recently told me that I would soon be writing copy to appear on their London-based service as well. This should help.

Thank your for the informative editng post. When editing documents in Australia I'm finding a lot of the US spelling creeping in. For example, 'minimize' instead of 'minimise', 'flavor' instead of 'flavour', and 'practice' (noun) when it should be 'practise' (verb). When you select Australian language in Word, it thinks 'minimize' is correct. Most Australians use UK spelling but it can be confusing if you are constantly exposed to US text.

Yes, you have expressed your opinion rightly. Various mediums are available nowadays, which provide online solutions to the writing problems. Some people can't cope with the mounting work of writing, So they tend to hire a source to get easiness.

Any piece of writing that has been composed well with a precise proofreading and accurate editing, will get its readership.
