Big Deal Result

Filed under: Freelance Writing — ERH @ 3:04 pm

I posted a while ago on a contract I was pitching for involving an insurance directory and and what is a well paid writing gig with all expenses paid travel around the world.

My fly in the ointment was a competitor who had better experience than I - no point in denying the truth, he was the better candidate for this particular contract.  It came as no surprise that I received an email advising me that the contract was being awarded to him but the disappointment was palpable.  The chap I was dealing with at the client asked me to give him a call and I did so expecting to get some form of “better luck next time” story.

Now here comes the real surprise - my writing test had been deemed to be good, it impressed the management and it came very close to them making me an offer for the contract but they erred on the side of caution.  However, the question was posed as to whether I was prepared to join the panel of writers in any event and as soon as work comes up I’ll be assigned?

My response was diplomatically put along the lines of “Is the Pope Catholic?” and  of course I would love to be included in the panel.  I call this a result even though I have not got a portfolio from them at the moment, I’m on the panel and in the fold waiting for my first assignment.

I want some sun so I hope it is somewhere hot and near a beach where I can show off my recently slimmed down physique to best effect :)
